Marrakech
Set at the foothills of the Atlas Mountains, Marrakech is a vibrant gateway to Morocco and the perfect place to begin a roundtrip adventure. Just a short drive from dramatic mountain landscapes and traditional Berber villages, the city blends rich history with an infectious energy.
Often called the Red City, Marrakech captivates with its maze-like streets, ornate palaces, peaceful gardens and colourful souks filled with scents, sounds and local craftsmanship. At the heart of it all lies Jemaa el-Fna, the city’s iconic square, which truly comes alive after sunset with storytellers, snake charmers, musicians and tempting street food.
With its excellent connections, cultural highlights and proximity to the Atlas Mountains, Marrakech is not only an unforgettable destination in its own right, but also an ideal starting point for exploring the diverse landscapes of Morocco.
Agadir is Morocco’s leading beach destination, famous for its nine-kilometer stretch of soft sand and relaxed seaside atmosphere. After an earthquake in the 1960s, the city was rebuilt with wide boulevards, palm trees and open promenades — giving it a clean, modern feel that many Portuguese travellers appreciate.
But the Moroccan character is still very much alive. In the city centre you’ll find colourful markets, traditional souks and the sound of the call to prayer echoing from the minarets — a gentle introduction to North African culture without culture shock.
In the Agadir area you’ll also find excellent beachfront stays such as Hotel RIU Palace Tikida Agadir and Hotel RIU Tikida Dunas, both offering comfort and familiar standards while you explore somewhere completely different.
Just up the coast lies Taghazout, a small fishing village turned surf hotspot. It’s peaceful, welcoming and easygoing — think Atlantic surf culture mixed with Berber traditions. The beach rivals Agadir’s in beauty and is loved by surfers of all levels, especially those coming from Portugal’s own surf coast.
Taghazout is also a great base for exploring nature. Within about 90 minutes you can reach the turquoise pools of Paradise Valley or the waterfalls of Imouzzer — dramatic landscapes that feel far from Europe, yet comfortably close to home.
Here you’ll also find Hotel RIU Palace Tikida Taghazout, a perfect option for travellers who want a relaxed atmosphere with spectacular ocean views.
Morocco’s west coast gives you sunshine, flavour and adventure — without the long-haul journey.
