San Agustín enjoys a great location on Gran Canaria’s sunny south coast. It’s a peaceful resort, ideal for travelers looking for a relaxed atmosphere, a crowd-free beach and easy-going evenings with good restaurants and laid-back bars. It also benefits from being close to two popular neighbours – lively Playa del Inglés and Maspalomas, famous for its striking Sahara-style sand dunes.
Even at weekends, San Agustín’s dark-sand beach has plenty of space to stretch out and unwind. The sheltered bay keeps the water calm, making it perfect for swimming, snorkeling and diving. A seafront promenade lined with excellent seafood restaurants links San Agustín to the dune-backed beach at Maspalomas.
In the past, Gran Canaria’s interior was crossed using the Caminos Reales, ancient routes created by the island’s original Guanche inhabitants. Today, these trails are popular with walkers and hikers heading into national parks and nature reserves, with routes ranging from gentle walks to more challenging hikes.
Around 30 minutes away, the village of Fataga is home to Mundo Aborigen, a recreation of a traditional Canarian settlement with life-size figures of the Guanche people. Las Palmas de Gran Canaria is also within easy reach, about a 40-minute drive away, and offers shopping, culture and great local dining.
