Holidays in Albufeira: endless variety

Holidays in Albufeira are all about variety. You can try a different beach every day, relax in the old town during the afternoon, and enjoy lively nights filled with bars, restaurants, and live music.

The destination that put the Algarve on the map

Albufeira is the place that established the Algarve as a major tourist destination. The picturesque old town is packed with pavement cafés and small shops, while the modern resort centres around the famous Strip, which comes alive at sunset. The whole scene is framed by around 30 kilometres of coastline with unspoilt beaches and small coves.

An impressive collection of beaches

Albufeira’s extensive coastline features over 20 different beaches. Close to the old town is Praia dos Pescadores, ideal for families and known for its excellent dining options. At the bottom of the Strip lies Praia da Oura, popular for its lively atmosphere and watersports. Further east is Praia da Falésia, backed by long stretches of red cliffs. And these are just a few highlights.

Old town charm

During the day, sunlight reflects off the whitewashed houses of the old town. You can escape the heat inside historic churches or wander through cobbled streets that offer a cool break from the sun. In the evening, the main square bursts into life and becomes a hub for al fresco dining.

Close to Lagos

About an hour’s drive west is Lagos, one of the most important centres of Portugal’s maritime history. It was from its harbour that Prince Henry the Navigator helped launch the Age of Discovery. Another must-see is Europe’s first slave market, a powerful reminder of a significant chapter in history.
